Associate Vice President for Governmental Relations
In January 2009, Timothy Sanders returned to Purdue University as associate vice president for governmental relations. A 1997 graduate in marketing and management, Sanders serves as Purdue's chief liaison between the University and state officials. He also has oversight of Purdue's interaction with federal officials.
This responsibility includes coordinating relationships and communication with the Indiana Congressional delegation and the legislative and executive branches of Indiana state government, as well as serving as the University liaison to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
Prior to his appointment at Purdue, Sanders served as the first executive director of the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority from 2006 to 2008. Sanders also spent 20 years on U.S. Senator Richard Lugar's staff coordinating communication between the business community and various government branches, implementing public relations initiatives to raise awareness on key issues facing Northwest Indiana, and serving as a liaison between the region's business community and the various branches of the federal government.
Other past positions held by Sanders include northwest Indiana coordinator for the Indiana Economic Development Corp., president of the Tradewinds Rehabilitation Center in Gary, and board vice president of the Lake Area United Way.
