Customs (Purdue Import Broker Information)

A. Business Process

When items are being purchased from a Supplier outside of the United States or items are being shipped from outside of the United States, Customs will have to process the shipment.  Requisitioners should work with their Business Office and provide the Import Broker information on the SRM order as a comment. Customs can process the shipment usually in 1-2 days when Import Broker information is known.  Without the import broker information, shipments sit in Customs for extended periods of time until they can determine where/whom the shipment belongs.  Since Custom charges are additional charges over and above the invoice and shipping charges, delays in Customs can be costly.  In addition, perishable items can spoil.
