Provost Fellows for University Administration

This program coincides with the University's current six-year strategic plan, "New Synergies," and is designed to assist those who have an interest in and demonstrated potential for university administration.

Each year during the strategic plan, up to five faculty members who have demonstrated leadership potential and have an interest in administration will be chosen to work on specific projects. 

Program Overview

  • Monthly meetings with CIC Academic Leadership Program Fellows and senior administrative staff to explore the nature of administrative work and challenges administrators face
  • Opportunities to work with the Office of the Provost, Office of the President, or the Research Office 
  • Opportunities to gain a general overview of University administrative processes
  • Discussions about the challenges of higher education, the 21st century university, the changing professoriate, the changing student body, and the changing nature of teaching, learning, and scholarship
  • Opportunities to specialize in areas of particular interest and expertise
  • Access to senior level staff meetings, advisory groups, and Board of Trustees meetings

Areas of Focus

  • Student Success: retention, graduation, student success, student support services, the challenge presented by underprepared students, innovations in learning
  • Faculty Development: faculty recruitment, retention, and success including promotion and tenure issues; specific policies and procedures; campus climate, culture, and collegiality; leadership development; new faculty success; mid-career faculty issues; planning and executing new programs and projects
  • Research Integrity: responsible conduct of research; protection of research subjects; conflicts of interest; management, sharing, and retention of data; orientation and mentoring of faculty and post doctoral scholars; reviewing and updating research policies; responding to allegations of research misconduct; assuring compliance with research and sponsored program regulations
  • Academic Research Financing: research financial issues facing the University related to cost share on grant proposals, increasing costs of faculty start-up, increasing facility costs, upgrading animal equipment/facilities and laboratory equipment
  • Globalization: vision, strategy, regional foci, and global learning, discovery, and/or engagement initiatives
  • President’s Initiatives: higher education policy

Who is eligibile?

Tenured faculty members on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus.

What is the compensation?

Typically appointments are up to a 0.5 FTE for two semesters.  Salary savings will be returned to departments associated with the budgeted salary of the faculty member.

How do I apply?

 Deadline for new selection dates will be announced 

  • A letter specifying your preferred area of focus with a proposal for a project of interest and a summary of the your relevant expertise and experience
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • An endorsement from your department head (or dean if the applicant is a department head).
