Summer Vacation Plans

Amanda Sheffield

Major:  Meteorology

Hometown: Elyria, OH

I will be participating in a ten week paid internship program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. I will be living in the residence halls at nearby University of Maryland, which is the co-sponsor of this program, during the duration of my internship. More specifically, my internship is at the Summer Institute on Atmospheric, Biospheric, Hydrospheric, and Solar and Space Plasma Sciences from June 12-August 18, 2006. I will be working in the Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Research Program.

My internship program is designed to introduce undergraduate students majoring in all areas of the physical sciences to research opportunities. A total of twelve undergraduates from across the country will be participating in this unique program. Participants were selected by grades, skills, references, and major interests.

I am very excited to be living in Greenbelt, MD for the summer; it’s about half an hour outside of Washington, D.C., to which I’ve never been! I’m also excited to be doing an internship in an area that interests me.
