You may remember the smiles of young students playing in the fountains at Purdue and the blossoms welcoming new students to our campus. Over the years, Consumer Science has been graduating leaders in the Sales, Retail, Financial Planning, and Apparel Design industries. You are among the many that have successfully benefitted from our talented faculty and staff. I want to highlight some of the exciting growth and challenges facing Consumer Science.
In 1995, the Bachelors degree of Selling and Sales Management was created at Purdue University. This degree has become one of the most popular programs in our department; currently we have approximately 220 undergraduate students in this program. In 2010, the Purdue Center for Professional Selling was created and we inherited Matthews #117 as a skills training laboratory. Since then, the Center has grown exponentially. Along with the energetic faculty dedicated to the field, we now have a talented full time associate director, who works directly with our students and develops strong and long lasting relationships with corporations.
Our Dean has committed to helping us continue the growth of our Center to develop a state-of-the-art learning laboratory to enhance our student experience.
But, we need your help.
While we are working hard to raise the funds to pay for the renovation costs, we need our dedicated alumni to contribute so that we may equip the Center with necessary fittings, fixtures, tools, and state of the art technology – to continue to support our students as they prepare for their next chapter. We have identified space on the 3rd floor of Matthews Hall for this facility and are awaiting our architect's final drawings.
The enhancements within this facility will allow our students to leave Purdue with the same pride they felt when they first saw the fountains.
We look forward to your contribution. A $25,000 donation will sponsor the student role play laboratory spaces; a $75,000 donation will fund the multi-purpose conference facilities, but truthfully, any dollar amount that you are moved to donate will help us.
