bookends-left Creating a PDF File
Trouble shooting problem documents and preparation for the web.
With the Internet growing by leaps and bounds every day, many people want to make their documents accessible from the web. A great way to do this is to convert documents to PDF files. Another use for a PDF file is to check if your job will print with all the desired fonts and graphics.

What do I need?

In order to create a PDF from your document (PageMaker/QuarkXperss) you will need Adobe Acrobat Distiller installed. If you do not have Distiller, you can also make an EPS file (through the export menu in QuarkXPress), open up your document in Photoshop, and save it as a PDF, or in the case of InDesign or PageMaker, make a PostScript file and we can convert that to a PDF for you.

For information on ordering Adobe Products for your departmental use, click here.

How does this help my document print correctly?
When you create a PDF file, Distiller converts your document into a graphic, truly embedding all fonts and graphics as they appear on your screen. Since a PDF file cannot be manipulated in the same manner as a Word file, you won't need to worry about your fonts substituting or your graphics being lost.

I want to put my documents on the web, where do I start?

If you are using Adobe PageMaker, you can export your documents as PDF's directly from that software as long as you have Acrobat Distiller Installed. Simply select File, Export, PDF, click Export Now, select a location for it to be saved and click OK.

If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Distiller or Adobe Photoshop, you can create a PostScript file and we can convert that to a PDF for you.
