bookend graphic FTP Instructions for the Mac

Fetch

Due to Purdue University’s network setup, it is VITAL that these instructions be followed exactly as given. To not do so will result in corrupt, unusable files. This applies to any FTP method when uploading from a Mac.

DO NOT USE the “drag and drop” method of transferring files!

Can Mac users upload files to the FTP server by way of Web Browsers?
Unfortunately, due to Purdue University’s network configuration, users are unable to upload files to the FTP server by way of web browsers.

1. Launch Fetch and enter the login information.
Hostname:printer.prtserv.purdue.edu
Login/username: ftpuser
Password: ftpuse
  Fetch Step 1

2. The Server window will open. Select and open the “Design_Services” folder.
  Fetch Step 2

3. In the “Remote” menu, select “Put.”
  Fetch Step3

4. Browse to the area on your hard drive where the folder containing the job files is located.
  Fetch Step 4

Set the file format type as “MacBinary III” (any version of MacBinary format is acceptable). This will compress (stuff/zip) the folder before uploading thereby avoiding file corruption during transfer.

A running dog icon will display during the upload. When the dog stops, the transfer is completed.

Alternate Upload Method
A. Follow steps 1-2. With the “Design_Services” folder opened, click on the  “New Folder” icon from the toolbar.
  Fetch Step A

B. Enter the new folder name in the window that appears. It is recommended that the folder be named by either the job number (if available) or by job title/description. Once created, open the folder.
  Fetch Step B

C. Follow steps 3 – 4, locating and adding the required files to the folder for upload ( use the “add” feature in the “Put” window to batch files to upload). When all files are added to the folder, click “Done.” Make sure the file format is set to “MacBinary.”
  Fetch Step C
