Getting a design project started
Our designers or any of our customer service staff can help you get your orders started, choose papers, offer suggestions, get estimates, show proofs and follow your projects through the production process. It is not necessary to have all the information determined to get a project started but we do need a Printing Services Form 3 or SRM order to get your project scheduled.
You may stop in and talk with one of our designers or customer service staff anytime during our normal business hours. Appointments can be made to meet at your office if preferred. If you have worked with one of our designers previously, feel free to contact him or her directly when you have a new or repeat project that you need to get started.
What you should provide
Hard copy and samples
Provide a hard copy print out of your applications files and previous printed samples, if available. Feel free to bring in samples for ideas you would like to have incorporated in your design.
Application files
Send all your application files (Word, InDesign, Publisher, etc.). The final files will be kept here for future updating or reprinting.
Fonts
We recommend that you provide the fonts used in your documents if possible.
Fonts designed by different manufacturing companies may look similar but are not an exact match. By substituting a font in a document, text or symbols may be altered, wrap differently or not show at all. It can be very subtle or it could be very noticeable.
Please make sure you conform to the font licensing agreement of fonts you have purchased*. PC fonts are generally located on the c: drive. For example: c:\WINNT\fonts. You can also do a search for “fonts” on your C: drive. Select all the fonts you used in your files and copy them to a folder with your application files and graphics. Some applications like InDesign have a “Package” feature that will collect all your fonts and graphics used in the file.
Graphics, Photos, Purdue Signature and Other Marks
Send all photos, clipart, logos/marks or other graphics that are used in your document. It may be necessary for us to adjust colors or edit the graphics to provide the best quality printed piece. It may be possible to edit graphics in some applications but we usually get better results in less time by editing the original graphics.
We have the Purdue Identity, the secondary marks and a library of Purdue photos. If we are designing your piece, please provide any specific photos or graphics that may be useful in the design. We can help you choose which ones may work the best.
*Due to licensing agreements with your fonts, we may not be able to store them here. We will keep a pdf file of your documents for rerun projects. We may request the fonts be submitted again if we need to make changes to your original files. |
