Letter Service

Pre-Professional Advising offers a letter service to current students and alumni who are applying this year to medical, dental or podiatry programs. We will collect letters of recommendation and submit a letter packet to the application service (or to individual podiatry programs) on behalf of the applicant. We maintain your letter file for five years in case you need to reapply. If you are applying to medical, dental or podiatry school in 2017 for a program that starts in 2018, now is the time to sign up for the letter service! If you plan to start your program later than fall 2018, do not sign up now.

To sign up for the letter service, complete the Qualtrics Survey at http://bit.ly/2gQMF9W. Once you have completed the survey, the Pre-Professional Advising Office will send you an email that includes a handout to give to your letter writers and instructions you must follow to complete the Letters of Evaluation section of your online application. If you need to make changes to your letter writers, do not fill out the survey again. Instead, send an email to preprofessional@purdue.edu with the changes. After May 26, 2017, you may email or call Pre-Professional Advising to check on the status of your letters. It is your responsibility to follow up with writers who have not submitted letters.

New Resource Available for Pre-Medical Students

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has created an online pre-medical guide that discusses issues such as where to find information on MD programs (the MSAR), the MCAT, the online application (AMCAS) and financial aid for medical school. This is a great starting place to learn more about the resources available to you. Check out the AAMC Resources for Pre-Med Students.

Consider Study Abroad as a Pre-Professional Student

It is possible to study abroad as a pre-professional student, but you need to plan ahead for the timing and for the costs. We will be happy to discuss study abroad as part of your pre-professional preparation. The Study Abroad Office is in Young Hall Room 105. Be aware of their deadlines: February 1st for select summer programs and internships; March 1st for most summer programs and for fall and academic year programs; September 15th for spring semester programs.  Study Abroad at Purdue
