About Prehealth at Purdue University

The Health Professions Program at Purdue allows you to explore your interests while developing career options and/or pursuing a particular career. Being a prehealth student at Purdue (as at most schools) is a career interest –– not a major. This is your chance to study what interests you. Professional schools do not have a preference of major –– they seek students who have a broad academic background and have completed specific prerequisite courses. Purdue offers over 200 majors! To explore the many options at Purdue, head to the "Academics" page of the Purdue Admissions website. You will find an amazing array of classes that will help you develop as a scholar and global citizen.

To learn more about various health careers and the prerequisite courses for professional programs head to the Career Information portion of this website.

Once you have chosen a major, you will work with an Academic Advisor who is well informed about the requirements for professional programs in healthcare. You can also visit the Center for Career Opportunities to look for more advice on careers.

As a research institution, Purdue has faculty members in all fields who are involved in research and creative work. Students often find opportunities to be involved in these ventures, allowing them to make a real contribution to research in their fields. Being involved in research and/or creative activity helps professional schools gauge your academic development.

Besides having your courses taught by renowned scholars, you will also have many opportunities to be involved in the community and campus. Professional schools generally seek service-oriented students who have been involved in their campuses and communities. With over 850 student organizations, Purdue is the perfect place to develop as a citizen and scholar.
