FERPA Waivers

• If students are using the Center for Pre-Professional Advising File Service, they must indicate whether they are keeping their access to their letters or waiving it according to FERPA laws.
• Although it is their choice, we do recommend that they waive access as these letters are viewed as being more realistic about students' abilities.
• Students should provide you with a form that indicates their FERPA choice when they ask you for letters. This form is for your records –– it does not need to be returned to our office.
• If students maintain their right to see the letters, they may view them in the presence of a Center for Pre-Professional advisor. They may not have a copy of them.
