Florida Spring Break Tour 2008
We departed on our 24-hour bus ride from West Lafayette at 10:15 P.M. When we finally arrived, we enjoyed breathing in the warm Florida air. The next night, the performing began in Naples at a beautiful church. Not only was the performance sold out, the church had "overflow rooms" with TVs showing our performance. Little did we know, this was something we would have to get used to during our tour.
Our hotel was located on the east coast in Plantation, Florida but most of our performing took place on the west coast. After performing in Naples that night, we drove back to grab a few quick winks before turning around the next morning and returning to Naples for some morning church services. After two congregations, we headed back to the east coast. One of the new men from the Glee Club invited us aboard his grandfather's beautiful 160-foot yacht and we were fortunate enough to spend the afternoon cruising along the coast.
The next few days involved crossing Alligator Alley time and again to perform in Punta Gorda at the Burnt Store Presbyterian Church and in Cape Coral at the Faith Presbyterian Church. One of the highlights was returning to Indian Creek Country Club in Miami. Eyes opened wide as we drove into the country club to the site of mansions, beautiful oceanfront and large exotic trees. The Glee Club student manager and our director enjoyed a round of golf at the perfectly tailored golf course. After mingling with guests during the cocktail hour, we gathered inside for a fabulous dinner before performing. Thanks to our friends at Indian Creek for hosting us. The evening was beautiful!
Our final three performances of the tour were back across Alligator Alley to the Marco Island Lutheran Church, the beautiful First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs and our final appearance at the Royal Poinciana Golf Club where we were honored to spend some time with a few Glee Club alumni, including the oldest living Glee Club alum, Robert Netherton!
Who would ever want to leave the beautiful Florida weather? Not us! Unfortunately, we had to head back to West Lafayette and get back to classes. Thanks to all who joined us on our tour. It was great to see so many Boilermakers!
