Center Stage: Glee Club LSO Collaboration
The Purdue Varsity Glee collaborated with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra during their 2009-2010 concert series. The concert, entitled “The Best of Broadway” included many famous scores, including songs from Wicked, Oklahoma, The Music man, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, and Les Miserables. Pictured here, conductor Nick Palmer was happy to have the Glee Club join LSO for a packed house! (Photo courtesy of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra).
Here, PVGC director Bill Griffel conducts both the orchestra and the Glee Club in the Wicked tune “Dancing Through Life”.
Men of the PVGC had the unique opportunity to mingle during twice during the show, once during intermission and once at the end of the show. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the music from both groups!
While the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra had their own set including several Broadway scores, the Glee Club also had a set of their own including crowd favorites “This is the Moment”, “Lost in the Stars”, and “Circle of Life”.
LSO maestro Palmer also directed the Orchestra and the Glee Club in two medleys, one from “Oklahoma” and another from “The Music Man”. The crowd was excited to hear the final number, “Seventy Six Trombones” and couldn’t help but express their excitement for these two powerhouse ensembles joining together for an evening. The Glee Club would like to thank Maestro Palmer and the rest of the LSO for their friendship, superb musicianship, and for the invitation to share in one of their concerts.
