Center Stage: Homecoming Parade

Members of all the PMO ensembles rallied near the Purdue Airport to begin the Homecoming Parade festivities. Despite the cold and rain, students and staff came together to entertain parade onlookers.

“Say Cheese!” The Glee Club poses for a photo prior to departure for the parade. Nice Christmas show shirts guys!

The parade route led from the Purdue Airport all the way to the final destination at Slayter Hill. Many songs along the way included “Hail Purdue”, “Oh Purdue”, and “For the Honor of Old Purdue”.

Sophomore Mike Buenaventura definitely enjoyed himself along the parade route.

Many loyal Purdue families lined the streets of Purdue in droves to see the Parade floats and hear the harmonies of the Purdue Musical Organization ensembles.

Having Fun, are we?!? Purduettes Tara Knoop and Carrie Syberg show their enthusiasm as the parade continued. As always, not even the weather can dampen the spirits of PMO students.

Even some of the PMO faithful showed up for the parade. Here, Mr. and Mrs. Helfrich (parents of Barry Helfrich) and former Purduette Monica Ruberg (Barry’s girlfriend) cheer on the PMO ensembles.

The excitement of the evening truly started to brew upon arrival at Slayter Hill. The Purduettes and Glee Club performed onstage along with Purdue Bands to kick off Homecoming at the annual pep rally.

Of course what Purdue event would be complete without the official mascot of Purdue, the Boilermaker Special, present?

The Homecoming rally was even featured on TV! The Big Ten Network showcased Purdue, including PMO’s performance, during their “Friday Night Tailgate” show.

The crowd really got excited during both the Glee Club and Purduettes’ set. What a way to start off the homecoming weekend right, gentlemen and ladies!

This year, Senior and Sir of Scholarship, Barry Helfrich, was on the Homecoming court. Here, Barry is crowned Co-Homecoming King with Senior Nathan Welch. This year set a record, as Barry and Nathan are the first Homecoming Kings to win by an exact tie. Way to go Barry!

Many PMO students stayed during the entire rally to cheer on Barry. Here Mr. Helfrich poses with the 2008 Homecoming King, Sam Utley. Ironically, Sam is also from Haubstadt, Indiana.

The evening festivities ended with a BANG as the fireworks display concluded the pep rally. Again, congratulations to Barry Helfrich and happy Homecoming 2009!
