Center Stage: Glee Club Camp Daily Student Perspective

Jim Giberson

It’s the end of Day One, and we’ve hit the ground running! The returning members of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club are privileged to welcome fourteen New Members into their ranks. Today was a busy day filled with challenges and fun. The New Men are working hard to be right in stride with the veteran performers of the group. The old men are picking up right where they left off with a sound that is bigger and bolder than ever. The men of the Glee Club look forward to another great season, sharing their love of music with audiences everywhere. We hope to see you soon. In Song, Jim Giberson

Wow, Today was a long day! It was our first official day at Camp Tecumseh. We left PMO today at 8:00 AM to get to camp and started right at 9:00 with teaching the New Men all of our songs. When lunch finally came around, we enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers. They were awesome! In the afternoon, we learned a few new songs which we can’t wait to perform. When we finally got some free time, a bunch of us took a well deserved nap! When dinner came we had a nice surprise when the Purduettes joined us. It was fun to relax and sing some songs with the girls. After dinner, we had our last rehearsal of the day. When it was all over, we were all tired but excited because of all we accomplished today. I can’t wait for tomorrow and of course the show on Friday. Hopefully we see you all at our First Nighter Show on August 28th. In Song, Ian Hyman

It’s day number 3 and we are at Camp Tecumseh, and what an eventful day it has been! The Glee Club keeps improving as the Old Men continue to excel and improve while the New Men are pushing themselves to their limits in the always-hectic game of catch up. From bonding with our brothers and sisters in song at meals and rehearsals to a rehearsal-interrupting trip to the basement in a tornado scare, we have already had many interesting experiences and continue to improve exponentially. As we continue to grow and improve as individuals and as a group, we are getting ever more excited to begin this new, upcoming and exciting season and we hope to see you all soon! Today was a good day filled with a lot of interesting events. At lunch, Captain Jack Day came to visit and spend some time with us. Then the Purduettes came over to our rehearsal space and we rehearsed a few songs for each other to show our progress and improvement. President Córdova came to visit and we sang a few songs including our favorite, “Hail Purdue”. Today was definitely busy! In fact, I’m writing this in the middle of a Voiceovers rehearsal while we take a break. Well, Gotta go sing! In Song, Mike Blakely

Being a new man at our camp was the biggest undertaking I've ever been a part of. It was exciting, stressful, scary, and entertaining all at the same time; and overall it was an awesome experience. I was most looking forward to today, because the Glee Club was going to perform at camp. This would be our first concert with the old men, in front of an auditorium full of people. The show was fantastic! All the work the new men put in finally produced results, and the clapping made the camp worth every minute of rehearsal. I can't wait to get back up on stage, and make the next show even better. In song, Logan Pankratz
