Center Stage: Glee Club Spring Break Tour Day 3
After a restful morning at their homestays, the gentlemen traveled to the luxurious Port Royal Country Club in Naples, FL.
The properties committee carried in all the necessary sound equipment, but the risers were left behind in favor of a shaded canopy area right next to the pool.
The PMO staff gathered for a group photo with the white sands and blue ocean behind them.
Drummer Andrew James looked ready to hit the beach!
And Ted was about to join him! The band wore fun, colored glasses during Ba-Na-Na to add to their spring break “Beach Boys Medley.”
During sound check, Ba-Na-Na got to take their new medley for a test drive. It included songs like “409” and “Surfer Girl.”
While the guests arrived around the pool, the Glee Club continued to warm up in the shade of the clubhouse and discussed their plans for the day.
Freshman Seth Miller had the chance to serenade a lucky lady, poolside.
Kaitlyn Tappenden kept everything running smoothly on the sound board.
The group put on a fun and impressive show for the guests of the club.
After the thirty minute performance, the Glee Club sang to some additional guests before relocating to have a meal of their own.
The second performance of the day was in Bower Chapel at Moorings Park, just a short drive away from Port Royal.
The properties were loaded in and assembled quickly.
Flashbacks debuted their spring break song, “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles.
Before the show there was some downtime and some Glee Clubbers used it to get work done.
Others used their time to soak up the sun!
After some relaxation, the group changed and filed in between the pews with a powerful entrance of “Glory Surrounds.” This performance was completely sold out!
The group sang both sacred and secular songs in the church, including our hometown favorite, “The West Lafayette Song.”
The women of the audience loved being able to talk one-on-one with a Glee Clubber and have the chance to hear them sing up close and personal during the run out.
Voiceovers also brought back a song from many years ago, “It’s Gonna Rain.”
Ba-Na-Na broke out their beach attire and entertained the audience.
After a successful day of two shows, the group loaded onto the busses and headed back to their homestays.
"Today was the first day of shows in Florida with the Glee Club, and we couldn't have asked for a better day. First, we visited the Port Royal Club where we had a poolside show near the beach. The breeze was wonderful, but the sun shined right down on the front row, so I was squinting a little and I got more sun on my face then I wanted. The audience was great! They were pleasant and welcomed us with open arms and smiles that shined even brighter than the sun during and after the show. After that, we headed to Bower Chapel at Moorings Park, which was a wonderful chapel surrounded by a lush landscape with a fountain that added a peaceful atmosphere to our show. The audience there was also very receptive and I could see the appreciation of what we do from their faces, which made the whole experience even sweeter. It was a great start to our spring break performances!"
Yours in Song,
