Invited back for the first time in four years, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club traveled to Warren Central High School this last Sunday for the second show of their Spring Season.
Travis Roon, the Glee Club’s Sound Technician, set up his equipment in the very large auditorium, and was able to maintain a perfect balance for the Glee Club to sing at their best.
Director Bill Griffel discussed some final set-up details with the new Sir of Properties, Junior Aaron Bourdage.
The merchandise committee prepared their booth before the sound check, hoping to sell some Glee Club CD’s and inform guests about Purdue Musical Organizations.
Finishing up the properties before the sound-check, the gentlemen worked quickly to set up the risers and microphones.
The gentlemen made a powerful entrance with Ted Arthur’s original song “America, We Arise”; a great way for the seniors to return to Warren for the first time since their freshman year!
Playing out to both the floor seats and a large balcony section, the Glee Club entertained with familiar tunes, including “Gary, Indiana” from the “Music Man Medley”.
The boys enjoyed several comical moments during “Lambscapes”, a song poking fun at Bill Griffel’s classical background through the lyrics of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”.
Senior Lou Fenoglio shared an emotional lavaliere with his mother, a Glee Club tradition.
Singing a song that has been in their repertoire for years, the gentlemen performed “The Happy Wanderer”, featuring Jimmy O’Connor in lederhosen.
A new crowd favorite, the Glee Club ‘followed the yellow brick road’ in their “5-Minute Wizard of Oz”, a jazzy and speedy version of the classic movie-musical.
Charley Smith, a senior from Greenfield, IN also had the opportunity to present a lavaliere to his mother during the second act of the show.
The gentlemen wrapped the show up with a strong performance of “Strike Up the Band”.
All packed up, the Glee Club journeyed back to campus in the snow after a great opening weekend of their second season!
