i2 - Purdue's Identity Inclusive Certification

Campus organizations can now sign up Purdue's pilot identity inclusive certification: i2. This unique certification is a great way to send a message to prospective student members that your organization is open and welcoming to all--regardless of background or identity. Certified organizations can use the ibadge to highlight their inclusive status, will get access to networking meetings, and get access to voluntary opportunities to engage in diversity and inclusion events on campus.

What does it mean to get i-certified?

Select organizations participating in the i2 testing phase will send an elected Social Justice and Inclusion (SJI) leader to a special training in the fall of 2016. These leaders will be educated on why active inclusion efforts are essential within Purdue's student organizations and trained on how to create identity inclusive climates, prioritizing an atmosphere of safety. They will also be coached on how to create inclusive organizational policies, such as anti-bullying and incident reporting processes, as well as constitutional or bylaw statements that will be publicly accessible. SJI leader will have the chance to regularly interact with other SJI leaders across campus and receive mentoring from Purdue leaders.

  • Organizations interested in achieving i2 Certification will send a designated representative (or team of representatives) to a special two-part training.
  • These leaders will be educated on why active inclusion efforts are essential within Purdue's student organizations and trained on how to create identity inclusive climates, prioritizing an atmosphere of safety.
  • Leaders will also be coached on how to create inclusive organizational policies, such as anti-bullying and incident reporting processes, as well as constitutional or bylaw statements that will be publicly accessible.
  • All participating organizations are required to elect a Social Justice and Inclusion (SJI) leader from their organization responsible for liaising with i2 and completing future certification responsibilities.
  •  SJI will have the chance to regularly interact with other SJI leaders across campus and receive mentoring from Purdue leaders.
  • Organizations may register with the intention of achieving one of three levels of certification.
  • Successfully completing the training and several follow-up activities can lead to one of three levels of i2 certification and earn the organizations a badge signifying inclusive recruitment and membership activities.
  • Certified organizations may make use of the i2 badge to send a strong signal to others that they represent multiple identities and campus populations.

How do ileadership levels work?

Organizations may register with the intention of achieving one of three levels of certification. Successfully completing the training and several follow-up activities can lead to one of three levels of i2 certification and earn the organizations a badge signifying inclusive recruitment and membership activities. Organizations with the ibadge send a strong signal to others that they represent multiple identities and student populations.

When is the next training?

Trainings are ongoing throughout the fall, with the first session occuring in mid-September. Contact i2 Lead Trainer, Drew Mallory, for questions about training dates or other requirements.

What else do I need to know?

The core training takes place in two 90 minute sessions. Completion of both sessions, and completing the follow-up tasks assigned in the training, is required in order to chieve core certification. Organizations who complete the certification will gain access to exclusive training, mentoring, and networking opportunities in addition to receiving special support and access to campus funds and resources to use toward inclusive activities.
