The Hazardous Materials Management Section serves Purdue by removing chemical and biological waste for disposal; educating and training campus customers on proper waste storage and disposal procedures; responding to chemical spills and threats from hazardous materials; and managing environmental cleanups. Hazardous Waste Management at Purdue Purdue manages hazardous waste under a permit granted to Purdue by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. This permit allows Purdue to store and treat waste as a Large Quantity Generator. It is the responsibility of each hazardous waste generator to manage their waste according to Executive Memorandum No. C-36 and Guidelines: Handling and Disposal of Chemicals. To have waste removed from individual campus locations; a Hazardous Materials Pickup Request Form must first be submitted. REM technicians will then come to each location to pickup the waste and transport it to Purdue's treatment, storage and disposal facility where it is commingled and stored in containers until it is shipped off-site for ultimate disposal by an outside vendor. Purdue carefully selects disposal options for all hazardous waste with the highest priority given to environmental responsibility.
