Introduction | What is GIS? | GIS Software

The Purdue University GIS (Geographic Information System) Group provides support services to the departments in EUC and OUA.

GIS/R&R Overview

Services include computer-aided drafting and geographic information services pertaining to building floorplans, utilities, mapping and related graphic projects. Services are also provided to Physical Facilities departments outside of EUC and OUA such as Police, Fire, and Parking. Projects with entities outside of Physical Facilities are contracted as resources are available.

What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) extends the capability of maps by attaching data to individual mapping elements allowing users to manipulate, analyze, and report on data using both spatial and database queries.

Purdue EUC GIS manages data connections for utility and basemap data for the purpose of supporting infrastructure inventory and utilities maintenance.

A special project such as parking space management extends the database to account for all parking spaces and allows reports to be generated based on either the graphic data and/or the non-graphic 'attribute' data.
