Schedule:

  • Bid date: March 16, 2006
  • Board of Trustees meeting: April 7, 2006
  • Construction phase: Third week of May to August 18 (exterior work)/end of Sept. (inside work), 2006

 

Unlike many other sites, an entirely new vault will be constructed at PMU. The existing vault will be operational during this time. No mobile substations will be necessary at this site.

Construction crews will typically work between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., though hours may vary depending on the stage of the project.

Milestones:

  • The north end parking area and access drive is closed to traffic except for delivery trucks for the PMU docks.
  • Excavation of the vault area has begun. See photos below.
  • June 13: The concrete has been poured for the vault foundation, and the wall structure is being erected.
  • June 22: The concrete has been poured for the vault walls. See photo below.
  • June 27: The vault walls are being waterproofed. Bus duct installation in the vault has begun.
  • July 19: The vault top has been poured. See photo below. The vault top will serve as a patio area behind PMU when the vault construction is complete, and the concrete top has been surfaced for this purpose.
  • August 3: The vault area has been backfilled and the storm sewer work is complete. Upcoming work includes restoration of the outside area and installation of the new electrical equipment in the vault.
  • August 9:
    • The pavers are being replaced as the site restoration takes place. Outside work is expected to be complete in time for the start of fall classes. See photos.
    • Shutdowns will be required in the near future to accommodate work in the manhole. These will be scheduled and announced in advance.
  • August 21: Exterior work is complete. See photos below. Interior work will continue into September.
  • October 9: An electrical shutdown has been scheduled for 2 p.m., to tie some electrical distribution panels into PMU's new electrical system. The shutdown will last for approximately 5-8 hours. Only certain systems will be affected by this shutdown.
  • October 10: Work inside the vault is essentially complete. See before and after photos below.

of the building. Crews have excavated the area and have begun preparing to pour the concrete foundation of the vault.

All the pavers around the manhole have been restored.

 


The walkway and parking area north of PMU are now open, and the construction equipment has been cleared away.


The vault top concrete has been patterned and sealed to serve as a patio/gathering area.
