Locally Grown
Most of our meat comes from right here at Purdue. We raise cattle, swine, sheep, and poultry just west of town at our Purdue Animal Sciences farm. The animals are bred, fed, harvested, and processed by Purdue students and staff to bring you fresh, high-quality, locally-grown meat. Look for the labels “Locally Grown” to know you are eating meat raised right here.
Dry-Aged Beef
We age our beef in the cooler for an average of 14 days before it is cut, packaged, and available for sale to you. The extra time spent aging causes our steaks and roasts to be more tender and have a stronger flavor than what you would find at a common supermarket. Try it, we promise you won’t be disappointed!
Support Purdue
Proceeds from our meat sales go towards offsetting the costs of educating Purdue students about the food animal industry. These expenses include the cost of animals, staff, and equipment. We are the only functioning university meat lab in the state of Indiana, and we feel it is important to educate our future leaders on the production of safe, high-quality meat to feed our growing world. When you purchase meat from the Boilermaker Butcher Block, you are getting a great product and supporting a great endeavor!
Located in Smith Hall, Room 170, the Butcher Block is open from 2 – 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Click here for the current price list.
The Butcher Block accepts credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard & Discover).

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 4), meaning campus clocks will have to "fall back" this weekend.
Individual departments are reminded that they are responsible for changing clocks in their offices, research laboratories and departmental spaces. Buildings and Grounds staff will ensure that clocks in public areas and outdoor clocks are changed.
In addition to changing clocks, the time change means that clerical, service and operations technical employees, police and firefighters who work the third shift on this date will work one hour longer than normally scheduled. For that shift only, employees typically working eight-hour shifts will work nine hours; and those who typically work a 12-hour shift will work 13 hours.
Employees must be paid overtime for the extra hour if it causes the total hours at the end of the week to exceed 40. The work week may not be modified to avoid overtime payment.
If an employee requests the option of flexing the schedule, it is permissible as long as it is done within the same work week, it is at the employee's request, and the supervisor approves the request.
Employees on approved sick leave will be covered by the University's sick leave policy.
Supervisors and employees are encouraged to work together to meet both business and employee needs.

The current vacation policy for regular clerical and service staff allows each staff member to carry forward up to 320 hours of accrued vacation into the 2013 calendar year regardless of their number of years of service and regardless of whether they are full- or part-time.
Please inform your regular clerical and service staff members that vacation hours in excess of 320 hours will be forfeited if not used on or before Monday, December 31, 2012.
Using the chart below, you should be able to calculate which employees are at risk of losing vacation time. Those employees should be encouraged to schedule vacation now, before the end of the year.
| Service | Annual Hourly Accrual | Hours Accrued Each Pay Period* |
| During 1st Year | 80 | 3.1 |
| During 2nd Year | 88 | 3.4 |
| Duringg 3rd Year | 96 | 3.7 |
| During 4th Year | 104 | 4.0 |
| During 5th Year | 112 | 4.3 |
| During 6th Year | 120 | 4.6 |
| During 7th Year | 128 | 4.9 |
| During 8th Year | 136 | 5.2 |
| During 9th Year | 144 | 5.5 |
| During 10th Year | 152 | 5.8 |
| During 11th + Years | 160 | 6.2 |
*Accrual is calculated only on regular paid hours
Holiday Pay for All Employees
All regular employees (including Official University Retirees) who terminate the day prior to an official holiday are not eligible for pay for the succeeding holiday(s). Terminal vacation may not be used to “bridge” a holiday in order to receive pay for that holiday. An employee must plan to be physically at work at least one half-day before and after a holiday in order to receive pay for it.
However, for years in which the holiday falls on the last working day of the month (i.e. December 31, 20XX), individuals who are separating or retiring from the university will receive holiday pay. In this situation, the employee need not be physically at work at least one half day following the holiday in order to receive holiday pay.
If you have any questions, please call Connie Hughes at 44721 or Barb Hubner at 44722.
