What is BGR?

Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) is a new student orientation program that takes place the week before fall classes start and is open to all new first-year and transfer students. BGR enables new students to become better acquainted with Purdue and meet hundreds of their peers before classes begin. BGR has one of the largest university volunteer staffs in the country with more than 500 student leaders who work year-round to prepare for the new class of Boilermakers.

So, what's in it for me?

  • Learn your way around campus
  • Get information about all of the different resources available to students on campus
  • Meet new people and make lasting friendships
  • Attend programs that will help you succeed at Purdue
  • Network with Purdue faculty and staff
  • Move into your residence hall room or off-campus residence a week early to avoid the rush
  • Have FUN!

How do I register?

Register for BGR online via the myPurdue portal and submit your payment (BGR 2017 has a program fee of $320). Once you have registered and paid for the program, you will receive a confirmation. Please Note: Only students who have accepted their offer of admission to Purdue will be able to submit their BGR registration.

Are fee waivers or scholarships available for BGR 2017?

A limited number of need-based waivers are available to cover all or part of the $320 fee. The priority deadline for BGR fee waiver requests is May 1, 2017. Requestors will receive a response through their Purdue email account. Requests submitted after May 1 will be reviewed periodically. However, decisions may not be made until after the refund deadline. (See below)

To request a BGR fee waiver, contact us at studentsuccess@purdue.edu or call (765) 494-9328. If you email us, please include your FULL name and your Purdue ID number.

Please note: Waivers are granted based on financial need.

Will I receive a refund if I cancel my BGR registration?

In some cases, yes. If you are participating in another mandatory on-campus program that conflicts with Boiler Gold Rush (such as Intercollegiate Athletics, Band Camp, or Purdue Musical Organizations), you may be able to receive a full refund. Contact us at studentsuccess@purdue.edu or (765) 494-9328 to determine if your circumstance qualifies.

The refund schedule is as follows:

  • Through June 19, 2017- Full refund of $320
  • June 20, 2017-July 14, 2017- Partial refund of $160
  • July 15, 2017 and later- no refund will be available

Please note: You must cancel your BGR registration to generate the refund or fee remission (in accordance with these dates). If you do not pay the registration fee at the time of registration and then cancel your BGR registration after the full refund date, you will still be responsible for some, if not all (depending on when you cancel) of the registration fee.
