Academic Affairs
Scheduling of Classes.
Space Management and Academic Scheduling works with
the school/college and departmental schedule deputies to coordinate
the scheduling of classes. The resulting schedule is
organized in a manner that will help students satisfy
their curricular needs. Class schedule changes, therefore,
should be made only through the joint action of the
departmental schedule deputy and Space Management and
Academic Scheduling.
If a department finds it necessary to cancel a class because of insufficient enrollment or for other administrative reasons, the schedule deputy for that department must notify Space Management and Academic Scheduling. It is the instructor’s responsibility to advise each student already enrolled to report immediately to his or her advisor to initiate a change to another division of the course. If there is no other division, the student must officially drop the course.
Changes to the official schedule of classes for a given session shall be modified only by joint action of the department head, departmental schedule deputy, and the director of Space Management and Academic Scheduling. An instructor shall not make an unauthorized change in the time and place scheduled for classes assigned.
Scheduling of Students.
The scheduling of students for their assigned courses
will be done in accordance with the Schedule of Classes
and the registration procedures and regulations designed
to achieve the desired distribution of enrollment in
the several divisions of a course.
Scheduling of Space.
To distribute space efficiently and use instructional
facilities effectively, Space Management and Academic
Scheduling is responsible for the assignment, utilization,
and review of proposed modifications of space in existing
University buildings and developing academic program
statements for new facilities. All space assignments
for instructional or noninstructional purposes are subject
to review and change, depending upon the University's
overall needs and how a department uses its space.
Scheduling of classrooms for regular class sessions
and other meetings also is coordinated through Space
Management and Academic Scheduling. Faculty who wish
to use a classroom or conference room for a staff function
should phone that office or request the room through
Space Management and Academic Scheduling's Web site (www.smas.purdue.edu)
to reserve the space. Reservations for the use of space
for extracurricular and non-University functions also
should be requested through Space Management and Academic
Scheduling. A nominal fee may be charged to cover regular
and special services needed if the facility is used
outside the normal operating hours.
Approval by the University Fire Department is required
whenever decorations of any sort are used at a meeting
or gathering. Technical assistance and printed regulations
regarding this matter are available from the University
Fire Department on W. Third Street. A responsible
party should be designated to arrange a pre-event inspection
with fire department officials.
