The Department of Human Resource Services dedicates
itself to attracting, developing, and retaining valuable
people for Purdue's workforce. The department provides
leadership, human resources, and consultation through
its specialized teams and its customer-specific teams.
Human Resource Services' specialized teams provide
expertise in specific areas within the human resources
field. Specialized teams include:
Director's Office
- Provides leadership in strategic planning, organizational
communication, and regulation compliance
WorkLife Programs
- Provides programs and resources on disease prevention,
smoking cessation, weight management, nutrition education,
physical activity, stress management, family and
relationship issues, flexible work arrangements,
child care and elder care
- Provides clinical services and referrals through
the Employee Assistance Program to assist employees
with personal problems that adversely affect work
performances
Employee Relations and
Human Resources Policy
- Manages grievance and conflict resolution
- Provides consultation on employee relations matters
- Coordinates creation and revision of human resources
policies
- Administers Family and Medical Leave Act and other
leaves
- Facilitates accommodations for the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Administers drug and alcohol testing programs as
required by law
- Provides training on policies and supervisory issues
- Coordinates staff recognition programs
- Facilitates and supports employee advisory groups.
Employment
- Develops and implements recruitment strategies for administrative, professional, clerical, and service positions
- Maintains the job applicant and employee databases
- Coordinates temporary employment for campus clients
- Screens and refers applicants for regular administrative, professional, clerical, and service vacancies
Compensation
- Coordinates policies, practices, and procedures related to pay
- Coordinates policies, practices, and procedures related to employment contracts
- Analyzes salaries for hire rates, increases, and equity
- Handles classification of new and existing positions
Human Resources Services Information
Systems
- Identifies and provides computing support for mission-critical
human resources systems
- Consults with staff on business needs and solutions
- Manages the application of computer technology to
human resources
- Reviews and advises on all uses of all human resources
data
Human Resource Services Training and Development (HRTD)
- Provide Human Resources (HR) certificate pre-courses (PHR/SPHR) for exempt-level HR practitioners
- Provide nationally recognized HR Certificate courses for nonprofessional HR staff
- Provide nationally recognized HR Certificate courses for supervisory staff with both a focus on legal compliance and training on how to effectively manage diverse workforce opportunities and challenges
- Provide clerical employees with developmental opportunities through the Accomplished Clerical Excellence Program (ACE)
- Provide administrative and professional staff development opportunities through the Council for Manager Development (CMD)
- Provide supervisory staff development opportunities through the Leveraging Human Capital Series (HC)
- Provide skill development opportunities promoting diversity and compliance throughout campus
- HRTD collaborates with HR subject matter experts and HR customers to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control HR processes and systems. All efforts are aimed at improving customer satisfaction and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of HR systems.
