Updating to Banner 8.x in February
In July 2008 Banner was launched as the “new student system” for the University community. At that time, OnePurdue Executive Director Gary Newsom, now retired, was quoted as saying, "There is no finish line. We have laid a good foundation, and now will continue to build on it to make sure that OnePurdue remains a cutting-edge system that evolves with Purdue and meets its needs."
This statement could not be more accurate as the Student Systems Competency Center (SSCC) is now focusing on upgrading from Banner 7.x to 8.x. Staying current with new releases of the Banner software ensures vendor support and enables the University to take advantage of new functionality with the potential to increase staff efficiency and productivity.
This six month upgrade project was approved in September and will be implemented in February 2010. Implementation planning and testing is in progress by the SSCC team. Staff members from Student Services departments also will participate in the testing process during the months of December and January.
After February’s implementation, we will turn our focus toward the review and consideration of functional benefits gained by the upgrade. Benefits such as algorithmic packaging for financial aid, course waitlisting at the section level, minimum/maximum registration hours, and new graduation self-service options and mass entry forms for general student, Admissions and Registrar.
