Changing passwords: 30 or 120 days?
Some students have had trouble logging in to the myPurdue portal because they were unaware they have a Banner or SAP “role” (a level of security access) that requires a more frequent password change.
Although the vast majority of students need to change their Purdue Career Account passwords only every 120 days, some must do so more often. This is basically a security issue. If a student also is a University employee and has access to confidential data (e.g., payroll or student information), his or her password must be changed every 30 days. (Student employees should see their supervisors if they are unsure if they have a Banner or SAP role.)
This affects Blackboard Vista logins as well. If the 30-day rule applies to a student because of a Banner or SAP role, the student needs to change his or her password every 30 days in order to log in to Blackboard Vista.
If, on the other hand, a student employee does not access confidential data and, like most staff members, only uses the SAP systems to use Employee Self-Service, they only need to change their password every 120 days. This policy also applies to students who do not have SAP roles and use myPurdue only for such things as registering for classes or viewing their financial aid status. Here are some common scenarios for students:

Anyone can check their password status in this box on their myPurdue home page (after logging in):

Again, if a student does not access confidential information in the SAP or Banner systems, they need to change their password only every 120 days.
