Introducing Student Reporting Governance - November 2016

To all student reporting community, 

You probably are very familiar with the communications that have been going out to the student reporting community regarding the Student Reporting Project in recent months.

To recap, the project group was charged with assessing the Validated student reports in Cognos. The project team has worked on consolidation, re-organization and conversion of reports into a new standard format. The executive sponsors for the project are the Chief Data Officer and Director of the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness Brent Drake; Vice Provost of Enrollment Management Pam Horne; and Director of the Business Intelligence Competency Center Aaron Walz.

On October 17, 2016, the project team went live with the new Standard Content folder. You may have noticed that the Validated folder, which existed for many years, does not exist anymore! 

The new Standard Content folder contains all the reports from the old Validated folder, however in a different subfolder and possibly re-named. These improvements support the goal of the project to establish standard naming conventions, easy navigation to the needed report, and detailed report description. These enhancements should significantly reduce the need for individuals to create ad-hoc reports and greatly improve efficiency and consistency for report consumers.

The project is soon coming to a close. In order to maintain the established efficiency and consistency, the project team is pleased to announce the formation of a Student Reporting Governance Committee consisting of representatives from across the Purdue Cognos community. The committee will provide oversight of newly established standards for all reports in the new Standard Content folder. The committee will review all changes to Standard reports and provide timely communication regarding the changes. The committee will also provide answers to user inquiries about Cognos reports.
