Peer Mentoring Program

Span Plan’s Peer Mentoring Program is designed to enhance the experience of our nontraditional students by pairing them with another, more experienced nontraditional student who can offer support and information. Although our Span Plan population draws from many diverse backgrounds, we find when all is said and done there are many more similarities than differences. We draw on the strengths of both our common and unique experiences!

The process begins with gathering basic information from both the mentors and the mentees. This includes information about programs of study, age, gender, veteran status and parenthood. The mentors are trained to ensure they are aware of campus resources and effective communication. Then matches are suggested. The frequency of contact is established by mutual agreement between the pair.

Feedback is solicited several times during the academic year, and is welcome at any time.

If you have an interest in participating, watch your e-mail with Span Plan mentoring in the subject line. You should receive one in the first few weeks of each regular semester. If you have an immediate question, please direct it to Beth Duket through e-mail. eduket@purdue.edu.
