Publicizing an Event
How to Publicize

Submit and have your Event Planning Form approved in Schleman Hall, Room 250 to begin. Recommended mediums for promoting your events are listed below:

  • GetInvolved Website ~ Organization members can submit a flyer for an event or callout that they are hosting. Organizations participating in an event may not post a flyer for that event. Events posted on GetInvolved are routed to PurdueBoard, MyPurdue, Boiler TV, and Computer Labs on campus.
  • Lists ~ From our office, you may request lists of enrolled
students, alumni, student organization presidents, and advisors. You also may send direct mail to students. Forms are available in Schleman Hall, Room 250.
  • Chalking ~ Only chalk concrete sidewalks that are exposed to weather. Organization names must be prominently displayed. See Overall Expectations for more details.
  • Paper Advertisements ~ Can be posted on kiosks and designated bulletin boards. Only 2 flyers per 5 feet are allowed between posted flyers, and organization names must be prominently displayed. See Overall Expectations for more details.
  • Union or Stewart Center Showcases ~ Reserve showcase space for your student organization in the. Contact Purdue Memorial Union Scheduling at (765) 494-8870.
  • PSUB Movies ~ Advertize your student organization event at the beginning of a movie in Fowler Hall. For more information, contact the Purdue Student Union Board office at (765) 494-8976.
  • Sheet Signs ~ Coordinated by Alpha Phi Omega in Stewart Center, Room G14, (765) 494-2692. Online requests available on the Alpha Phi Omega website.
  • Purdue Cable ~ Boiler Television (BTV) is a closed-circuit cable system serving Purdue University's residence halls and select academic and administrative buildings on the main campus. BTV services include a 40-channel cable line-up, a locally inserted Movie Channel, and an Electronic Bulletin Board. Online requests are on the Boiler Television website.
  • Mortar Board Calendar ~ Student organizations can have their callouts advertised in the Mortar Board Calendar. Submissions are accepted towards the end of the spring semester for the following academic year. Visit the Mortar Board website for a request form.
  • Websites ~ Your organization may establish its own website. Once an election report is filed on the GetInvolved, the organization president activates the account through ITaP. Under popular destinations, they can click on “change your password” and log in using their career account. After clicking on accounts, the president has the option to either set up an account or change the password to the existing account. You may then apply for a more simplified address (URL redirect) through our office.
  • TV/Radio/Newspaper ~ Student organizations can advertise their event through The Exponent, The Journal and Courier, TV Channel 18, or various local radio stations. A press release is the suggested format. Basically, what is important to cover is who, what, where, when, etc. Be sure to put the most important information first, as editing usually occurs at the bottom of a story.

NOTE: Radio advertisements should be used with caution. Since radio promotions reach a broad audience, it is inappropriate for use with events intended for Purdue students only.
