Martia Brawner, Assistant Dean of Students

Martia Brawner began her role as an Assistant Dean of Students on September 10, 2007. She joins current Assistant Deans, Kyle Pendleton and Diane Blackwelder, in rounding out the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) advising team within the Student Activities and Organizations Office. Brawner’s primary responsibilities will focus on student organization oversight/advising, along with working with Purdue’s Cooperative Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). Dean Brawner received her B.A. in ethnic studies from Bowling Green State University and went on to achieve her M.Ed. in student affairs in higher education from Wright State University.

Prior to assuming her new role at Purdue, Dean Brawner was the Director of Student Programs at the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV. Her responsibilities there included coordinating new student orientation, advising all student organizations on campus, along with primary oversight for the Student Activities Board, the Black Student Association, and the Greek Council. As a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., the opportunity to work with the fraternity and sorority community (FSC) at Purdue—specifically NPHC and MGC—is what made this new position so attractive to her. Her goals include tackling issues that the community faces—hazing, conflict resolution, reputation/stereotypes—along with improving relationships throughout the FSC and across campus.
