Volunteers are needed to help care for a child with Downs Syndrome. The child is high functioning with good cognitive and language skills.

Volunteers (20-25) are needed to help clean-up Camp Straight Arrow (the YMCA's summer camp).

Mental Health America
On-going need
Volunteer with the Compeer program. Be a friend to a socially isolated individual recovering from a mental health challenge. Friends attend low-cost or free activities. It takes about one-hour per week. Training and support is provided. A nine month commitment is required. Contact United Way Volunteer Center
Lafayette Transitional Housing

Volunteer opportunities for groups or individuals include: preparing meals, entering computer data, sorting and organizing donated items, painting, yard work, and general maintenance.

Serenity Hospice

Volunteers needed for Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren, and White counties.

Become a companion to patients and relieve the family members for a couple hours. Spend time visiting with someone who may change your life.

A volunteer is needed to help care for a 50 gallon aquarium. Boiler Volunteer Network
The Columbian Park Zoo

On-going project

Collect and donate used cell phones and cell phone accessories (chargers, batteries, etc). Donated items will be sent to Eco-Cell to be recycled or reused as emergency phones for low-income families.

Your donation will also help Indiana's River Otter Project which is reintroducing river otters throughout the state. Eco-Cell will make a donation to this project in exchange for the donated cell phones.

Also, your donation will reduce environmental pressures on the fragile Congo rainforest region by reducing the need to mine for certain materials consumed by the manufacture of cell phones.

Donating old cell phones is good for the environment and helps people in need.

Donations can be taken to the Columbian Park Zoo or taken to the Boiler Volunteer Network office.
The Purdue Arboretum
Summer Internship
Intern will assist in establishing an ArcGIS database to manage the documentation o woody plants on the Purdue campus. More information is available from the Boiler Volunteer Network
CFRC (Community And Family Resource Center)

On-going Opportunities

 

Volunteers are needed to help staff with administrative and clerical tasks - organizing resources, filing notes, making copies, purchasing items, delivering reports to the Department of Child Services and the County Courts, entering information into the database.

Volunteers are needed for the Youth Underground after school program. Duties include: homework help, facilitating activities, mentoring, and leading sports/recreation activities.

Emergency Services and Hispanic Outreach - sign guests in at the food pantry. Food pantry is open Tues, Thurs, and Fri from noon until 2:30 pm.

Volunteers are needed to work 4 hours per week to help feed baby animals, provide care to animals, perform general maintenance and lawn care, enter data, answer phones, and do general clerical duties. You must be 16 yrs or older.

Book Cycle

Make a weekly, monthly, or other commitment

Book Cycle enhances early childhood literacy. Volunteers act a liaisons between the Book Cycle coordinator and the Book Cycle service sites. They help sort and organize books, deliver books and supplies, and help distribute books on Book Cycle days.

Tippecanoe County Historical Association

One to four hours per week - during regular business hours.

Volunteers will serve as Collection Assistants. They will help the Collection Manager care for all collections held by TCHA (including creation and maintenance of records). Volunteers must be familiar with computers, data bases, and spreadsheets. Ability to accurately type and print by hand. Organizational skills are helpful. Should have the ability to do some lifting and carrying. An interview is required. Training is provided.
