Hundreds of us did something nice for others in celebration of Valentine's Day. Groups went to Hannah Community Center, Mental Health Association, Columbian Park Zoo, Trinity Mission and Regency Place.

January 15, 2007 Martin Luther King Day Affirming the Dream XII: Promises to Keep
Approximately 200 people signed up to volunteer in the memory of Martin Luther King. We worked in places like the YWCA, Trinity Mission, Salvation Army, Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Civic Theatre and George Davis Manor, to mention about half of the places. People painted, cleaned, organized, sorted food and clothing,

August 18, 2006 Freshman Action Day
Approximately 30-40 incoming freshman got a taste of the volunteering life before classes began. People stenciled curbs, cleared away invasive species from the NICHES habitat, and spruced up the Humane Society.

May 7, 2006 Project Move Out
Students throw away a lot of stuff at the end of the year. So we had them donate it to us. We collected it and sorted it in the armory and let various client agencies come and pick it up in a 'shopping spree'.
On Friday and Saturday (and, truth to tell, Sunday morning), we collected and sorted the donations.
Sorting and organizing all of this took days. But it was all worth it when those in need came and took the vast majority of it away in about 70 minutes.

April 1, 2006 Boiler Blast!
Boiler Blast is an annual campus-wide volunteer effort designed to say "thank you" to the West Lafayette community. This one-day effort acknowledges and recognizes the sacrifices West Lafayette residents make during the 10 months 38,000 students live among them. Over 1000 people gathered to volunteer their time and their muscles. Groups helped to clean up the streets and parks around West Lafayette. Several groups helped area residents to rake, mow, and clean up their houses.

Top Left: Each participant received a luminscent green t-shirt. A sea of green appears on the lower right.

Top Right: The food crew that gave pizza to exhausted volunteers.

One group worked at the YMCA Day Camp. Several of us (from Phi Mu and Grad IV) raked hiking paths and ropes courses to prepare them for summer campers. We were led by group leader Buttercup (above left).

February 11, 2006 Share the Love (Community Action Day)
Volunteers helped clean and decorate Digby House, a nursing home; clean and sanitize the Head Start classroom, and help set up a Victorian tea party at the Historical Association.

September 25, 2005 Community Action Day

About 25 of us landscaped a new house. We put black cloth around the house, planted a wide variety of plants around the house, mulched the rest. Other groups cleared fields of invasive species for NICHES and painted at Wabash Historical Trust.

"I'm going to put the mulch right here."
