The Office of the Dean of Students maintains a fund to assist students who encounter school-related emergency needs. The fund was established by Purdue alumni and friends. Any student enrolled in one or more classes may come to the Office of the Dean of Students and request to borrow up to $300 for 30 days with no interest.
HOURS OF OPERATION
Loans may be approved weekdays between 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
No loans are given Tuesday mornings.
EMERGENCY LOANS ARE APPROVED
- Interest-free as a service for Purdue students;
- For emergency, short-term use;
- For a maximum of $300 for 30 days;
- On a student's signature, picture ID, and must be registered for classes.
REPAYMENT OF LOANS
Loans may be repaid between 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Repayment can be made in the form of check, cash or money orders. As of August 1, 1999, payments made by check that are returned unpaid will be encumbered for the amount of the loan balance as well as a $20.00 returned check fee.
Students who are granted loans are expected to assume responsibility for prompt repayment. The total amount of money available for loans to all students is limited. Failure to repay loans by the dates due may deprive other students of the use of loan funds. Failure to repay loans by due date also will result in the encumbrance of the student's academic record. Only one reminder letter per loan will be sent to a student who has missed the loan repayment due date. If you cannot repay a loan by the due date, you must contact the Emergency Loan Clerk at (765) 494-1237. No email will be accepted. All contact with the Emergency Loan Clerk must be by phone or in person. ELIGIBILITY TO USE LOAN FUNDS
If you do not repay your loan by the date due resulting in the encumbrance of your academic record, you will not be eligible to receive another loan for a period of at least four months following the date of repayment.
If you are encumbered for a loan, your loan will be sent to Accounts Receivable. Payments will have to be made at the Bursar's Office on all loans sent to Accounts Receivable.
After a second encumbrance for failure to repay your loan by the due date, you will no longer be eligible to use the emergency loan funds. |
