Academic Adjustments - Access to Testing
Alternative Testing Conditions
Students with certain physical, learning, and psychological disabilities may use the same test format as their peers but be eligible for adjustments in testing time and/or environment. A Disability Resource Center Accommodation Specialist will determine the amount of time and the appropriate environment based on the student's medical documentation and specific needs. The student is responsible for making arrangements with the instructor prior to each exam. Space for testing under special conditions is provided either by academic departments or by the DRC.
Extended time: Determination of the amount of extended time for exams is based on research conducted by the Educational Testing Service as well as the student's specific needs. Generally, 150 percent to 300 percent of the allocated time is recommended.
Distraction-limited environment: Distraction-limited environments are provided to qualified students in order to facilitate concentration and limit disruptions during examinations.
