PURDUE'S GOLDEN TAPS ceremony is a time to reflect and honor the lives of students who have lost their lives.

Held each semester, this nondenominational program allows friends, family, and the Purdue community to gather in remembrance and tribute of lives lost so young. Dr. Tony Hawkins, Dean of Students, will greet those gathered and explain the history and significance of the Golden Taps Ceremony. The guests will then proceed to the steps of Hovde Hall. Drummers and buglers from Purdue University Bands will set the tone for the event by proceeding from Schleman Hall to the ceremony site where memorial cards will list the names of the students being remembered. A bell will toll once for each student being honored, followed by a few moments of silence for personal reflection. "Echo Taps" will be played by buglers. The Purduettes from the Purdue Musical Organizations will conclude the ceremony by performing the "Purdue Hymn," which hails the University as "cherished in memory by all her sons and daughters true"...words that capture the spirit of Golden Taps and honor the memory of young lives full of hope and promise. The Boilermaker Special, the University's official mascot, will stand nearby in silent tribute. Other student organizations involved include the Gimlet Leadership Honorary; Black Cultural Center's Black Voices of Inspiration; and Purdue Student Government.

The next Golden Taps Ceremony will be announced at a later date. The students we are honoring are:

Jeffrey Brandon Sims
Freshman, College of Technology Statewide Program, Columbus, Indiana
