Purdue programming teams compete in regional rounds
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Four Purdue University teams will compete in the IBM-sponsored ACM East Central North American Regional Programming Contest on Saturday (Oct. 22).
Purdue teams Gold, Griffins, Green and Blue will travel to the University of Cincinnati to compete in the Battle of the Brains contest. Competitors will vie for a spot in the May 14-18 World Finals in Warsaw, Poland.
During the five-hour competition, teams of three students will work together to solve eight programming puzzles.
The Purdue students competing this year are all enrolled in a competitive programming course taught by Tim Korb, coach and assistant department head of computer science. The weekly course consists of a brief lecture followed by a three-hour practice session. Students work on algorithmic and mathematical puzzles with solutions expressed in the form of a computer program.
