Purdue, IU technologies to be highlighted at showcase

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.; BLOOMINGTON, Ind.; and COLUMBUS, Ind. - Business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors will receive a preview of technologies developed at Purdue University and Indiana University on Thursday (Sept. 8) at the Purdue University and Indiana University Technology Showcase in Columbus, Ind.

Officials from the universities will present eight technologies that are ready to be licensed and have high commercialization potential for existing businesses and startups. Among them is Mantis, a portable reclining medical chair and dolly created by Leah Kenttämaa-Squires, a Purdue University industrial design graduate. Other technologies to be highlighted at the showcase include:

      * Biodegradation suppression solution for forensic samples

      * Extension of fixed controller area networks to wireless personal area networks

      * Figure-ground organization of 3-D scenes

      * Hydraulic system with integrated common rail energy recovery system

      * Implantable pressure sensor for optimizing ventilator support and weaning

      * Reconfigurable vacuum screen and pin-type molding device

      * Variable regeneration for hub motors to ultracapacitors for auxiliary batteries

The showcase will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Columbus Learning Center, Lecture Hall (LC 1000), 4555 Central Ave., Columbus, Ind. A future technology showcase is being planned for Fort Wayne, Ind., later in September.
