Developer of smartphone technology for industrial automation becomes Purdue Research Park affiliate

August 24, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - LoadOut Technologies LLC, which develops patent-pending video and data technology, has become an affiliate of the Purdue Research Park. The technology allows users to control automated factory and farm processes with smartphones.

The company was founded by Purdue University alumnus Neil Mylet. Mylet serves as CEO; Woody Nichols, another Purdue alumnus, is director of sales.

Mylet said the technology improves safety during processes like operating conveyor belts, loading grain trucks and feeding livestock because it enables the user to observe the operation from a safe distance.

"Clients can use the technology to monitor and control these processes on their mobile devices in a safe environment away from dust and other hazards," he said. "The technology also alerts clients when a process is completed or if something has gone wrong and the process should be stopped."

Although LoadOut Technologies is focusing on manufacturing and agriculture, the company may expand into other sectors.

"Any industry that uses automation - including coal mining, shipping and packaging - may be able to apply this technology," Mylet said. "The intricacies and exact specifications for these processes may be slightly different, but we believe we can meet the needs of these potential clients."

Mylet and his colleagues have begun installing the technology for clients in Minneapolis; Rochester, Minn.; Kearney, Neb.; and Fargo, N.D. Other clients are located in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Mylet explained why LoadOut Technologies became an affiliate of the Purdue Research Park.

"The Purdue Research Park is led by people who are great at business, and they take the time to work with companies through the roller coaster of successes and challenges that come as being part of a young venture. That expertise and direction helps in making the best decisions and thinking through options before you move forward, which makes the biggest difference in the world," he said. "Also, the park connects companies such as LoadOut Technologies with others so that we may collectively work and discuss how we can attain or goals."
