Purdue, agribusiness seminar to develop financial awareness

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Center for Food and Agricultural Business will offer its 2019 Agribusiness Finance: Financial Analysis of Operating Decisions professional development seminar June 17–19 on the West Lafayette campus.

Seminar participants will gain a deeper understanding of how their decisions impact company profitability. Through faculty-led presentations, participants will develop skills needed to better communicate area-specific financial needs to leadership peers and employees throughout their organization. Expert faculty will dive into financial terminology, statements and ratios using real-world scenarios while discussing the current financial market and its impact on the agribusiness industry.

“Area-specific financial conversations are necessary to have, but they aren’t always easy,” said Michael Gunderson, center director and professor of agricultural economics. “The Agribusiness Finance program aims to help managers strategically use accounting statements to connect their role to the company’s bottom line. After the program, company leaders can transform their value-creating activities into a conversation about why they are essential to the finances.”

In addition to Gunderson, Jaclyn Kropp, associate professor in the food and resource economics department at the University of Florida, will help facilitate the seminar.

Gunderson and Kropp will help attendees understand how to improve company allocation of financial resources through analysis of long-term investments in facilities, property and equipment, marketing campaigns, acquisitions and talent. Participants will leave with an understanding of how to apply practical financial tools for examining profitability to relevant agribusiness industry situations and assess long-term asset and investment opportunities for financial, operational and strategic fit.

This program is designed for agribusiness professionals responsible for a budget and non-financial mid- to upper-level managers who want to expand upon their understanding of business from a financial standpoint.

The program rate is $2,195. Learn more and register at https://agribusiness.purdue.edu/seminars-and-events/agfinance.
