Purdue Galleries to exhibit ‘Images of Human Rights’

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University Galleries will exhibit the collection “Images of Human Rights” in the Stewart Center’s Robert L. Ringel Gallery starting Monday (Oct. 1).

The exhibition, which features artwork inspired by the South African Bill of Rights, will be displayed through Oct. 27.

The collection “Images of Human Rights” is composed of a set of 29 fine art prints, each representing a different clause in the South African Bill of Rights, which was ratified in 1997. The prints were made by artists representing the nine provinces of South Africa. The exhibition will showcase a variety of printing methods as well as a diversity of expression and creative approaches to interpreting the individual clauses of the South African Bill of Rights.

Purdue Galleries will host an opening reception for the exhibit in the Ringel Gallery at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4. At the reception, Michal Hathaway, interim director, will comment on the collection and exhibition.

The Robert L. Ringel Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. All Purdue Galleries exhibits and events are free and open to the public.
