Purdue Extension hosts two remote viewing sites for Produce Safety Alliance water summit

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Although all available seats for the upcoming Produce Safety Alliance Water Summit have been reserved, stakeholders can still participate at two remote viewing sites hosted by Purdue Extension.

The summit, Feb. 27-28 in Cincinnati, Ohio, is intended to bring together growers, industry representatives, educators, researchers, policymakers and others to discuss the agricultural water provisions of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule. During breakout sessions, participants will have an opportunity to discuss various aspects of the provisions. The results of those discussions will be forwarded to the Food and Drug Administration, which administers FSMA.

“This is a very important topic and our understanding is that the available seats at the main site were filled in less than a day once registration went live,” said Scott Monroe, Purdue Extension food safety educator.

Presentations will be shown live at the remote sites as they are given at the main site and viewers at the remote sites will have the same opportunities to participate in breakout groups and have the results of their discussions forwarded to the FDA, he added.

The remote sites are located at the Purdue Extension-Lake County office, 2293 N. Main St. in Crown Point, and the Purdue Extension-Vanderburgh County office, 13301 Darmstadt Road, Suite A, in Evansville.

Summit hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST both days. Lunch will be provided. Registration is $150. To register for a seat at one of the remote sites, go to the SafeProduceIN website at https://www.SafeProduceIN.com and click on the “Get Trained” menu option.
