Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Craig Goergen, assistant professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University, has been named the recipient of the 2017 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award. The award is given to a young investigator within the first seven years of receiving their terminal degree in recognition of originality and ingenuity demonstrated in published works. The award is given in honor of the former BMES executive director and was established in 2000 to stimulate research careers in biomedical engineering. More on the award can be found here.

Alumni honors:

- The Davidson School of Chemical Engineering presented two of its distinguished alumni with the 2017 Outstanding Chemical Engineer Award. David H. Li (BSChE ’95) and William C. Nelson (BSChE ’74, MSChE ’75) were honored at a banquet on Sept. 7. Li is the president, CEO, and director at Cabot Microelectronics Corporation, a U.S. publicly traded semiconductor materials company headquartered in Aurora, Illinois. Nelson has over 40 years of Industry experience. He was employed by Atlantic Richfield Company for 26 years, and held various management positions in a wide arc of responsibilities.  In 2001, Nelson joined Hunt Petroleum Corporation as COO and senior vice president for exploration and production. In 2009, he joined Peregrine Petroleum as a member of their board of managers and as an executive oil and gas consultant to their CEO. For more information visit here.
