Purdue Convocations reveals 2017-18 season

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue Convocations' 2017-18 season will feature more than 30 events, including an array of Broadway musicals, lectures, theatre, music and concerts. In addition to the following performances, Purdue Convocations and the Purdue Student Concert Committee will continue to announce additional performances and concerts throughout the year.

Highlights of the season include "Jersey Boys," “The Illusionists” present Adam Trent, "A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder,” "Cabaret," "The Wizard of Oz," The Joey Alexander Trio, MONK’estra and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with André Watts.

In addition to scheduled public performances, thousands of students from preschool through high school also will attend a series of matinees and artist-in-residence activities that will be brought to schools. These events are open to all schools, and a complete list can be found at www.convocations.org/education.

Buying schedule

June 7-23: Friends of Convocations Presale. Friends of Convocations are seated before the general public with the Priority Points System. Orders must be received by June 23 for both PICK5 and single tickets. To join, visit www.convocations.org/support/ or call 765-494-9712.

July 17-31: PICK5 Presale. Buy five shows or more and save an average of 15 percent off single ticket prices. If you're not a Friend of Convocations, you can place your PICK5 order beginning at 10 a.m. on July 17.

Aug. 1 at 10 a.m.: All tickets on sale. If you're not a Friend of Convocations or a PICK5 buyer, you can place your single ticket order beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 1. Discounted tickets also are available for groups of 10 or more.

The Purdue Convocations 2017-18 season schedule includes:

* Rhiannon Giddens “The Freedom Highway Tour.” Sept. 15, 8 p.m., Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center. Tickets: $24-$28.

* Global Fest Featured Performance: Pascuala Ilabaca Y Fauna. Sept. 16, 7:30 p.m. (exact time subject to change), Columbia Street and Chauncey Avenue. Free admission. All-ages show. This performance is a Purdue Convocations contribution to the expanded 2017 Global Fest lineup.

* Global Fest Featured Performance: Delgres. Sept. 16, 9 p.m. (exact time subject to change), Columbia Street and Chauncey Avenue. Free Admission. All-ages show. This performance is a Purdue Convocations contribution to the expanded 2017 Global Fest lineup.

* “An Evening with Pat McAfee.” Sept. 23, 8 p.m., Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets: $27.50-$45 (Single tickets now on sale. ZONE A sold out). Showtime subject to change based on Purdue Homecoming football game time.

* Dawn or Doom 2017: “Is Technology Moving Faster Than Our Ability to Understand?” Sept. 26 and 27, Stewart Center, general admission seating, free admission. A technology conference curated by the Office of the System Chief Information Officer. Keynote speakers include Michael Bess and Robb Fraley.

* Diavolo “L.O.S.T.” Sept. 28, 7:30 p.m., Loeb Playhouse. Tickets: $22-$30.

* ensemble 4.1. Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m., Loeb Playhouse. Tickets: $22-$28.

* The Joey Alexander Trio. Oct. 14, 8 p.m., Loeb Playhouse. Tickets: $20-$26. Pre-show discussion at 7 p.m. in Purdue Memorial Union's Anniversary Drawing Room. Join composer, jazz pianist, and music educator Judd Danby and Don Seybold, host of WBAA’s “Inside Jazz,” for a discussion about the evening’s performance.

* Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with André Watts, piano. Oct. 15, 4 p.m., Loeb Playhouse. Tickets: $20-$50. Pre-show discussion at 3 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 206. Nick Palmer, music director and conductor of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, will discuss the program.

* “Alton Brown Live: Eat Your Science.” Oct. 22, 4 p.m., Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets: $34-$99.

* "My Father’s Dragon." Nov. 12, 3 p.m., Loeb Playhouse. Tickets: $10-$15. Pre-show activity at 2 p.m. in Stewart Center west lobby. Get your picture taken with a dragon and enjoy dragon activities. The Columbian Park Zoo will present animals from the story.
