Purdue and Oscar Winski leading community electronics recycling events this week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Physical Facilities is partnering with Oscar Winski to hold community electronics recycling events this week.

Through Friday (March 3), individuals may drop off personally-owned electronics at the Oscar Winski eRecycling facility, located at 2217 North 9th Street in Lafayette, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday (March 4), community members are invited to bring their personal electronics to the circle drive in front of Young Hall, located at 155 South Grant Street in West Lafayette, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“By partnering with Oscar Winski on these eRecycling events, we’re hoping to highlight an environmentally responsible way to dispose of electronics that are no longer working or wanted,” says Michael Gulich, Director of Campus Master Planning and Sustainability. “Hosting a portion of the event at Young Hall also makes recycling more convenient to those living on or close to campus.”

Welcome materials include, but are not limited to, cell phones, computer equipment, fax machines, laptops, lithium ion batteries, printers and radios, and other electronics with a cord or battery. Items that will not be accepted include dehumidifiers, freezers, refrigerators, light bulbs and alkaline batteries. An acceptance fee will apply for some electronics, including televisions, CRT computer monitors and microwaves, due to the materials contained within them or the amount of labor required to break the items down. A complete list of accepted and not accepted items, in addition to fee information, is available at http://www.oscarwinski.com/erecycling/items-accepted

All items collected during this event will count toward Purdue University’s final totals in the 2017 RecycleMania event, a competition among hundreds of universities and institutions to increase recycling and reduce waste.
