Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Polytechnic Institute, along with Ivy Tech Community College - Lafayette, received the Workforce Development Award for their co-enrollment aviation program. They received the award last month at Greater Lafayette Commerce's annual dinner. The program, which launched earlier this year, connects aviation curricula at Purdue Polytechnic Institute's School of Aviation and Transportation Technology and Ivy Tech's aviation program. Students who complete the program earn an associate of applied science degree in aviation maintenance technology with a power plant concentration from Ivy Tech, and Purdue provides the Federal Aviation Administration-issued power plant certificate program.

Notables:

- The Manufacturing Extension Partnership's second round of new manufacturing workforce training was mentioned in a White House fact sheet as part of "important progress in support of American manufacturing." The fact sheet was issued in advance of National Manufacturing Day, which was Oct. 7. The fact sheet said, in part, "Every graduate of the program has been guaranteed employment by a local manufacturer. Purdue MEP is also a key entity in helping launch a Women in Manufacturing chapter in Indiana to build community, address issues and create workforce development for future generations." The MEP training is in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
