South Shore Clean Cities to host National Drive Electric Week open house

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - South Shore Clean Cities Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and revitalize northern Indiana by promoting the use of clean fuels and clean vehicle technologies, will host an event to promote National Drive Electric Week.

The event will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT, Sept. 16 at the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, 6100 Southport Road, Portage, Indiana. The event is free and open to the public.

"We're proud to be part of the nationwide celebration to bring awareness of and widespread availability to highlight the benefits of plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles," said Carl Lisek, executive director of South Shore Clean Cities. "They are fun to drive, sustain less operational expenses, are better for the environment, promote local jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil."

Many electric vehicle owners and local dealers will be on site to answer questions. Attendees will have an opportunity to drive various types of electric vehicles such as the BMW i3, BMW X5, Tesla Model S, Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, and the THINK City vehicle.

South Shore Clean Cities is affiliated with Legacy Environmental, which is located in the Purdue Research Park of Northwest Indiana.
