WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Literacy expert Catherine McBride will speak at Purdue University for a public lecture on dyslexia.

The College of Education will host the presentation from 10-11 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) in Room 1142 of Lawson Computer Science Building. McBride will take questions for 30 minutes following the lecture.

McBride, an expert on dyslexia, is a developmental psychologist and professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has written 170 journal articles on topics including children's literacy development.

The definition of dyslexia differs from nation to nation, based partly on culture and language. In her lecture, McBride will discuss definitions of dyslexia and how word-reading problems might be defined in a second language.

She also will highlight related mental factors of dyslexia as well as the uniqueness of overlap in word reading difficulties in a second language.
