Internationally renowned mathematics professor to speak at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Ken Ono, the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Mathematics at Emory University, will give two lectures Oct. 7-8 during a visit to Purdue University.
Ono also will be promoting his book "My Search for Ramanujan: How I learned to Count." He will give a colloquium talk that is open to the public at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in Beering Hall, Room 2280 at Purdue. He will present at 8:50 a.m. on Oct. 8 at the Mathematical Association of America Indiana Fall Sectional Conference. Students, both undergraduate and graduate, and high school teachers register for free.
He has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago and master's degree and doctorate in the same field from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Ono works with number theory, with applications to algebra, arithmetic geometry and combinatorics, with an emphasis in integer partitions, modular forms and the fields of interest to Srinivasa Ramanujan, a world-renowned mathematician. He was a mathematical consultant for the 2015 film "The Man Who Knew Infinity," which is based on the life of Ramanujan.
