Construction projects to create traffic, pedestrian disruptions in area of Russell and Third streets

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The intersection of Russell and Third streets on Purdue University's campus will be closed to all forms of traffic through Aug. 12 due to multiple projects in the area.

The work will affect other street and sidewalk sections, including:

* All lanes of Russell Street, which will be closed to through traffic from Stadium Avenue to State Street, with access available from the north to the Black Cultural Center lot.

* Third Street and both sidewalks parallel to the road, which will be closed between North Martin Jischke Drive and Waldron Street.

* The intersection of Third and Waldron, including adjacent sidewalks, is closed, with an anticipated opening on approximately Tuesday (July 26).

* Third Street, between Russell and Waldron, will remain closed (even after the intersections at Russell and Waldron open) until approximately Sept. 6.

Pedestrians may continue to travel using marked alternate routes in the area. Access between the academic campus and residence halls will be maintained using marked pedestrian paths along First and Fourth streets. North and southbound pedestrian traffic should use the sidewalks along Waldron Street and North Martin Jischke Drive.

The work includes finishing touches to the newly constructed Honors College and Residences that is set to open this fall and house over 800 residents on five floors; the Bechtel Innovation Design Center, and work being done in preparation for turning Russell Street into a two-way street.
